Please join us at 2pm on Thursday, October 2 for the next meeting of the Gunny GoodReads Book Club.

Read & discuss: Absolution by Alice McDermott

Alice McDermott’s novel Absolution is set in 1963 Saigon, focusing on the lives of American military wives, particularly Tricia and Charlene, who form an unlikely alliance while navigating their limited roles as “helpmeets” to their husbands. Decades later, Tricia’s past is revisited by Charlene’s daughter, leading to reflections on moral duty, the complex legacy of the Vietnam War’s colonial history, and the unintended consequences of well-intentioned actions.

Traditional book club that meets once a month to discuss books over light snacks. They read contemporary fiction, with a taste for the suspense or thriller genre and meet on the first Thursday of every month from 2-3 pm (some changes due to holidays). Titles for the next month’s meeting are announced a month before. They will also be available in e-edition, audiobook, large print, etc.
