The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters
The Berry Pickers is the acclaimed debut novel by Mi’kmaq author Amanda Peters, following a Mi’kmaq family whose youngest daughter, Ruthie, disappears from Maine blueberry fields in 1962, told through the eyes of her guilt-ridden brother Joe and Norma, the white girl raised in her place, exploring profound themes of grief, loss, identity, and Indigenous resilience against systemic racism. Peters, inspired by her own Mi’kmaq family’s history of berry picking, crafts a powerful story about family bonds, stolen futures, and the search for truth across generations.

This group *typically* meets every 4th Thursday of the month from 5:00 at local watering holes. They read mainly contemporary fiction, with a few non-fiction titles every once in a while. Copies of books are placed on hold for book club participants and are available to check out at the library. Titles for the next month’s meeting are announced a month before. They will also be available in e-edition, audiobook, large print, etc.
