About the presenter:
Chris Dickey is a fourth generation Colorado native who, like many, found the allure of life in the Gunnison Valley while attending Western Colorado University. He grew up on a family homestead just south of Colorado Springs, attended elementary school in Penrose and high school in Florence.
While at Western, he began his pursuit of journalism, writing stories for the campus newspaper, the Top O’ the World, working for legendary Public Relations guru J.W. Campbell, even broadcasting Mountaineer sporting events for campus radio, KWSB. He graduated in 1993 with a degree in business administration, an emphasis in marketing and a minor in journalism.
After a two-year introduction to community newspapers while working in Woodland Park and Cripple Creek, Colorado, Dickey returned to Gunnison in 1995 to work for the Gunnison Country Times. With a few exceptions, he’s been there ever since — becoming editor of the paper in 2002, partnering with a fellow employee to purchase it in 2006 and becoming sole owner in 2011.
He met his wife, Kirsten Dickey, who owns OffCenter Designs, at 218 N. Wisconsin (the newspaper office). They have two kids, a junior and senior at Gunnison High School.
