Event Details

Join us at the Gunnison Library on Thursday, October 27 at 6 pm for an evening with local author, Marla Larson, whose new novel reimagines ghost tales! Marla will discuss her book and one lucky attendee will take home a signed copy. Several library copies will be available for checkout.

About the author:

Marla Larson grew up with an extended family. Her grandmother entertained everyone with stories and called her grandchildren “a pile of puppies who need something to think about.”  The author learned from Granny to add her own stories to the family time. Marla Larson has resided in Gunnison since 1995 and has written in several capacities – with the Gunnison Arts Center writing group & for the Gunnison Country Times.  This is her first novel.

About the book:

“Cross Contamination: a Different Kind of Ghost Story” is the first in a mystery series.

Meg has lost too many people in her life, but the latest is the hardest: her feisty, beloved grandmother Eloise has died of a mysterious virus. . . and materialized in Meg’s closet.

Once Meg gets over the shock of seeing Grams, she finds herself embroiled in a world peopled by the dearly departed who have joined forces to solve the mystery of Eloise’s untimely death. Together, this “Ghost Support Group” and Meg race against time before the strange virus claims more victims.

But events take an even more sinister turn when one of Meg’s co-workers turns up murdered and a local doctor is attacked and left for dead. In the midst of great peril, Meg and her cohorts try to unwind the tangle of intrigue and, in the process, discover that the entire town is in mortal jeopardy.

The Dearly Departed Series of cozy mysteries follows four sisters as they make unexpected discoveries about their town, their family, and themselves. In Cross Contamination, Meg is aided by her recently deceased grandmother—and a colorful cast of ghostly kinfolk and friends—as she discovers that dead doesn’t always mean gone. In Double Cross, twins Lisa and Lillian learn that missing doesn’t mean lost, and in Cross Over, Jessica discovers that being fiercely independent doesn’t have to mean isolated and alone. Set in the small Colorado town of Elk City, The Dearly Departed Series is a delightful romp through the mysteries of love, loss, and life.
